Fertilized eggs will become female offspring, while unfertilized eggs will become males.
Drones have no stinger. They do no real work. Their only purpose is to mate with virgin queens. After that they just kinda hang around until fall...then the female bees take control....
We are getting our honey bee hives ready for the winter and are seeing the female bees actually kick the drones out of the hives..it is really kinda sad to see this happening...but it is part of the Bee life cycle.....(come on guys..you need to help out more)(smile)...it reminds of the story of the Little Red Hen...
